Privacy Policy

This policy explains what personal information NewsBazz collects, why we collect it, how long we keep it and the rights you have over it.

Last updated: 24 September 2026 · Effective from: 1 October 2026

In short: we collect as little as possible, we do not sell your personal information, and we only use email addresses you give us to send you the things you asked for. You can ask us to delete your data at any time by writing to legal@newsbazz.co.uk.

1. Who we are

NewsBazz ("we", "us", "our") operates the website at newsbazz.co.uk and publishes the NewsBazz digital magazine. For the purposes of the UK General Data Protection Regulation (UK GDPR) and the Data Protection Act 2018, NewsBazz is the data controller for the personal information described in this policy.

Our registered address is 4 Kingsway, Holborn, London WC2B 6AN, United Kingdom. Our data protection contact is legal@newsbazz.co.uk.

2. What information we collect

We collect only the information we need to run a news website and to reply to people who contact us. In practice that means:

  • Information you give us directly — your name and email address when you subscribe to our newsletter, submit a contact form, or email the newsroom. If you send us a story tip, we hold whatever you choose to send, which may include documents or your contact details.
  • Technical information collected automatically — IP address, browser type and version, device type, operating system, referring page, the pages you view and the time of your visit.
  • Cookie and similar technologies data — small identifiers described in section 5 below.
  • Advertising and analytics identifiers — where you consent, identifiers used to measure how our pages perform and to serve advertising.

We do not knowingly collect special category data (such as health, political or religious information) unless you choose to include it in a message to us, and we do not ask for it.

3. How we use your information

  • To publish and operate the website, and to keep it secure and available.
  • To send you the Weekly Briefing newsletter if you asked for it.
  • To answer your messages, investigate corrections and respond to legal enquiries.
  • To understand which articles are read and how readers find us, so we can improve our journalism.
  • To display advertising that funds the magazine, and to measure whether those adverts are seen.
  • To meet legal, tax and regulatory obligations.

Under UK GDPR we must have a lawful basis for every use of your personal information. Ours are:

PurposeLawful basis
Sending the newsletter you requestedConsent (which you may withdraw at any time)
Replying to your messages and tipsLegitimate interests in running a newsroom
Website security, fraud prevention and debuggingLegitimate interests in protecting our service
Analytics and advertising cookiesConsent, collected through our cookie notice
Retaining records for tax and legal claimsLegal obligation and legitimate interests

5. Cookies and similar technologies

A cookie is a small text file placed on your device by a website. We use them, and similar technologies such as local storage and pixel tags, for four broad purposes.

TypeWhat it doesCan you refuse it?
Strictly necessaryRemembering your cookie choices and keeping the site working and secure. These cannot be switched off without breaking the site.No
Performance and analyticsTelling us which articles are read, how long people stay and how they arrived — always in aggregate.Yes
FunctionalityRemembering preferences such as your chosen text size or region.Yes
AdvertisingLimiting how often you see the same advert and measuring whether campaigns are effective. These may be set by our advertising partners.Yes

You can control cookies through the settings of your browser, and you can delete any cookies already stored. Blocking strictly necessary cookies may mean parts of the site stop working properly. Where consent is required, we ask for it before any non-essential cookie is set, and you can change your choice at any time by clearing the site data in your browser.

6. Advertising and third parties

NewsBazz is funded partly by advertising. Adverts on our pages may be delivered by third-party advertising networks, which may set their own cookies and process limited technical data as independent controllers. Where this happens, it only takes place with your consent.

We may also use service providers for email delivery, hosting, content delivery and analytics. These providers act on our instructions as processors and are bound by contracts that limit them to using your data for the purposes we specify. We do not sell, rent or trade personal information to anyone.

7. Newsletter and email

If you subscribe to the Weekly Briefing, we store your email address and the date you subscribed, and we record whether you have opened recent emails so we can keep the newsletter useful. Every email we send includes a one-click unsubscribe link. When you unsubscribe we keep a minimal suppression record so that we do not accidentally contact you again.

8. How long we keep information

  • Newsletter subscribers: until you unsubscribe, plus a short suppression record afterwards.
  • Correspondence and tips: up to 24 months after our last exchange, unless the material is part of an ongoing investigation or a legal matter.
  • Analytics data: in aggregate form for up to 26 months.
  • Server logs: up to 90 days.

9. Your rights

Under UK GDPR you have the right to:

  1. Be informed about how we use your data — this policy is part of that.
  2. Access a copy of the personal information we hold about you.
  3. Ask us to correct information that is inaccurate or incomplete.
  4. Ask us to erase your information, where we have no overriding reason to keep it.
  5. Restrict or object to certain processing, including direct marketing.
  6. Receive your information in a portable, machine-readable format.
  7. Withdraw consent at any time where consent is our basis for processing.

To exercise any of these rights, email legal@newsbazz.co.uk. We will respond within one month. You will not be charged, and exercising your rights will never affect how you are treated as a reader.

10. International transfers

Some of our service providers operate outside the United Kingdom. Where personal information is transferred internationally, we rely on appropriate safeguards such as the UK International Data Transfer Addendum or an adequacy decision, and we keep records of those safeguards.

11. Children's privacy

NewsBazz is a general-audience publication and is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, contact us and we will delete it promptly.

12. Security

We use encryption in transit (HTTPS), access controls on our systems, and the principle of least privilege for anyone who can see reader data. No online service can promise absolute security, but we review our arrangements regularly and we will notify you and the Information Commissioner's Office without undue delay if a breach is likely to put your rights at risk.

13. Changes to this policy

When we change this policy we update the date at the top of the page. If a change is significant — for example, a new category of data sharing — we will make that clear on the site rather than relying on you to notice.

14. How to complain

Please contact us first at legal@newsbazz.co.uk so we can put things right. If you are not satisfied, you have the right to complain to the UK Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk or on 0303 123 1113.
